AISM Regional Yoga Competition 2019

AISM Regional Yoga Competition 2019

Mrs. Geeta Iyengar rightly stated “When this body has been so magnificently and artistically created by God, it is only fitting that we should maintain it in good health and harmony by the most excellent and artistic science of Yoga.”

Yoga is more than just poses. In fact, the Asana comprises just a small part of the overall Eight Limbs of Yoga as spelled out in the Yoga Sutras. Yoga is a way of life. It deals with the evolution of humanity. This evolution includes all aspects of one’s being, from bodily health to self-realization.

“Yoga means union – the union of the body with consciousness and consciousness with the soul. Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day to day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.” -B.K.S. Iyengar

The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his UN Address suggested that June 21 be observed as the International Day of Yoga as it is the longest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere and has special significance in many parts of the world. June 21, was therefore declared the International Day of Yoga by the United Nations General Assembly on December 11, 2014.

Lodha World School, Palava hosted the CISCE (AISM) Regional Yoga competition for ICSE schools under the able stewardship of the Principal Mrs. Aditi Banerji. The students and teachers from 19 schools, all over Mumbai including schools from Pune and Nashik, braved heavy rains to participate in the competition.
There were three categories of events – Artistic, Rhythmic and Athletic Yoga.
The students exuded energy, confidence & freedom by practicing control in their various yoga asanas.

The event was much appreciated by the participating schools and the visiting guests even commented on the fact that the event was very well managed, organized and conducted with all the activities conducted smoothly.
